$750,000 Worth Of Meth Seized By Deputies

A major drug bust in Pueblo landed two men behind bars at the county jail Wednesday.

Oscar Lara-Acosta,33, and his passenger, Juvantino Villalba-Leyva, 45, were driving north on Interstate 25 when Acosta began weaving across the center median, according to Pueblo County sheriff?s Office.

A Pueblo County sheriff’s deputy pulled over the green SUV Acosta was driving. Deputies told KRDO NEWSCHANNEL13 that Acosta first claimed he was looking for deer, and that’s why he was weaving.

Deputies then checked their IDs, which were issued in Mexico, and began asking the men questions.

“Sheriff’s deputies believed the nervous behavior of the driver and passenger was suspicious and they were inconsistent with their stories of where they were traveling from or to,” said Deputy Laurie Kilpatrick.

A police K-9 searched the vehicle after both men gave deputies permission to search the car.

“Upon closer examination of the vehicle, deputies located a non-factory compartment that contained approximately nine and a half pounds of suspected methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $750,000,” said Kilpatrick.

Both occupants were arrested and are being held at the Pueblo County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bonds and immigration holds.
