Update: Standoff Suspect In Custody

A standoff had neighbors on edge Tuesday night, as a man in the Village Seven area of Colorado Springs was shooting a shotgun in his backyard.

Neighbors called police around 6 p.m. When officers got to the scene they surrounded the home and secured the area to make sure the neighbors were safe. Officers used reverse 911 to call people and tell them to stay in their homes.

The suspect is Brian Bikker, officers say he’s in his 50’s. They say he faces several charges, including the illegal discharge of a weapon.

Police say when they had the house surrounded Bikker, who lives in the 46 hundred block of Sleepy Hollow Circle North, came out of the back of his house with the shotgun and fired 3 shots into the ground.

A police negotiator was able to talk Bikker into surrendering without incident.

Neighbors say they’ve never had a problem with Bikker except his dog barks a lot. Some told us they think this is more a sign of the times.

“It’s kind of scary,” Chuck Epps told us, “People can go crazy, something wrong with this world.”

“I think, personally, with the economy and everything going on in the world people are really starting to lose their grip on things,” Annette Cleveland said.

Both Cleveland and Epps live behind Bikker.
