Two School Board Members Could Face Recall Vote
Two Ellicott School Board members are hoping not to face a recall vote in November. They plead their case before election officials Wednesday morning.
Ernest Hudson helped the petition effort. He said board members, Gary Lake and Stephanie Dickinson, are making for poor decisions for the district. He cites concerns over the board’s role in improving student performance, teacher retention and money matters.
“We want a better education for our students. We don’t believe we’re getting that from our current school board,” said Hudson.
Board members Lake and Dickinson aren’t letting the petition go forward without a fight. “We feel in Ellicott things are going pretty well. Our budget is in good shape, we just received a $15 million education grant and we are working are way up as other small districts,” said Lake.
The two board members said those who have signed the petitions were misled. Lake said it’s similar to what happened in 2010. Last year, another petition attempted to put four school board members on a recall vote.
A final decision on whether a recall vote will take place is expected sometime on Wednesday.
