Update: Las Vegas Street Murder

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman killed Friday in a murder in Colorado Springs.

Investigators have told KRDO Newschannel 13 that Carmen Marquez, 71, died of a gunshot wound. His death was ruled a suicide. Herminia Marquez, 72, was shot and killed by her husband according to police.

As was previously reported, on Friday, August 19, 2011, at around 5:00PM, the Colorado Springs Police Department responded to a shooting in the 300 block of East Las Vegas St. Officers responded to a residence on Las Vegas and found a deceased elderly male and female. They also found a third party, a male in his 50’s, in the rear of the home with a single gunshot wound.

Investigators determined that Mr. Marquez shot his wife and his son prior to shooting himself. Mr. Marquez’s son has not been identified. He is in the hospital in critical condition. The reasons for the shootings are still under investigation.

There have been 19 homicides in Colorado Springs this year and at this time last year there were 16.
