Pueblo Coroner Discusses 9/11 Attacks

It has almost been 10 years since America was attacked on Sept.11. On Saturday, the Pueblo County Coroner talked to people about his experience in New York after the attacks.

Pueblo County Coroner James Kramer landed in New York just days after the attack. Now, dozens are getting to hear what it was like for him to help during the tragedy.

?We’ve heard of the fire department and the police response but this is a whole different side,? said Kathryn Toth.

The Pueblo County Coroner?s office was requested to respond to 9/11.

Kathryn Toth volunteers at the El Paso County Coroner?s Office. She was on hand Saturday to hear what Kramer had to say.

?An airplane that has normally has 400 people had 30 people on it,? said Kramer. ?The first aspect was anxiety, not knowing what expectations or what I would be going into.?

He told a handful of people about his experience. He started with reminding everyone of that day, pictures and what American stands for, prepared his audience for what was in store.

Toth hopes to learn more about how to handle this type of disaster.

?We always practice emergency response. America has always been good at doing that. Could anyone have anticipated such a devastation as we saw? I don’t think anyone could have anticipated something with the degree of devastation,” said Kramer.

Kramer said he hopes everyone took this from his lecture, ?The spirit of America and who we stand for as a society and how we respond to disaster.?

Kramer said he feels as a nation, we are better prepared now then in the past.
