Severe Thunderstorm Watch Through 10PM

A line of severe thunderstorms capable of widespread wind gusts around 60mph or more will continue to move to the east-southeast across southern Colorado this evening. While straightline wind damage is the biggest threat and precautions should be taken to secure loose lawn and patio furniture, large hail near 1″ in diameter may be possible as individual cells within the line strengthen. The wind gusts will lead the rain associated with the storms so be aware that while they may seem far away, the wind gusts may not be. Lastly, excessive lightning is occurirng with the line of storms and you should seek shelter indoors as it approaches.

At 7pm, the National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for a large area ahead of the line from Kiowa County, through Bent and northwest Prowers Counties into Otero and southeast Crowley Counties through 7:45pm. The storms are moving southeast at 25mph.

We’ll keep a crawl up on the bottom of the screen and have occasional updates as necessary as the storms rumble through southern Colorado tonight with the next on expected around 7:30pm.
