Off-Duty El Paso County Deputy Charged In Deadly Crash

The Colorado State Patrol says it will recommend an off-duty El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputy who was involved in a deadly accident be charged.

The crash happened on August 3 at the intersection of Highway 94 and Curtis Road, said Troopers.

Vivian Elmo, 41, of Colorado Springs was killed in the accident, said Troopers. She was a reservist with the 310th Space Wing at Schriever Air Force Base, Troopers said.

The driver of the other vehicle was Rodney Fannin, 42, of Calhan who is an El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputy was off duty and in his personal car at the time of the accident, said Troopers and the Sheriff’s Office.

Fannin will face a charge of careless driving resulting in death, said Troopers. Fannin ran a red light, Troopers said.
