Hero Tackles Wanted Fugitive

David Vucetich, 25, of Walsenburg was on his way to meet his mother and brother or breakfast Wednesday morning when he noticed state troopers chasing a car on interstate 25.

?We saw the chase coming in behind us and then the crash happened,? said Vucetich.

Vucetich and his two friends saw one of the suspects get out of the car and take off running.

?We figured, well, nobody is going after this guy, I can get him. So all three of us jumped in after him. We followed him down into the river, captured him down there,? he said.

Vucetich said the suspect fought back, but eventually gave up. A few words were exchanged.

?The only thing he said was ?get away they?re going to shoot me?,? he said.

Vucetich and his friends sat the suspect down until officers arrived and put him into custody.

?They (officers) thanked us. I?ve had some people say ?you?re crazy going in after them?, but I had to do what I had to do,? he said.
