EXCLUSIVE: Dougherty Gang Tipster Talks To KRDO
The Federal Bureau of Investigations called Colorado Springs Police around 1:40 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, warning them of a credible tip that a trio of sibling wanted for a string of crimes in Florida and Georgia may be hiding out in the Pikes Peak area.
According to sources inside the Colorado Springs Police Department the tip claimed the trio was heading westbound on Woodman Road toward Interstate 25, with camping gear in the back of the Subaru Impreza. The white sedan, with Texas license plates LCS-909 was reported stolen out of Texas.
The FBI does not know what direction they may be going in, but they are telling people to keep an eye out in rural areas and in campgrounds where the siblings may be staying or hiding out.
A man, named Brian, told KRDO NEWSRADIO 105.5 FM that he called 911 after spotting the trio near Monument. ?We were heading toward Monument and there was a car that fit the description that was shown on ABC NEWS and we called it in,? Brian said.
He told KRDO NEWSRADIO that inside the vehicle were three people that matched the description of the three suspects, known as the Dougherty gang.
He claimed the trio was pulled over near the Monument off-ramp, just 19 miles north of the city of Colorado Springs.
?We passed once and turned around and kind of came back, we really didn?t make it obvious that we were checking them out,? he said.
The Dougherty siblings – Ryan Dougherty, 21, sister Lee Grace E. Dougherty, 29, and half-brother Dylan Dougherty Stanley – have been on the run since August 2nd, after getting into a shootout with deputies during a high speed chase.
Just hours later, they’re suspected of hitting a bank in Georgia.
Their mother, Barbara Bell, made national headlines last week when she made an impassioned plea for the trio to turn themselves in.
Police warned today that the siblings are packing a powerful arsenal and they are not afraid to use it.
If you have information as to the whereabouts of the Dougherty suspects, or think you see them please call 911 and do not approach them, said Noblitt.
If you would like to remain anonymous you can call Crime-stoppers at 719-634-STOP (7867) or you can simply text CSPD and your tip to 847411 (TIP411), said Noblitt.
