Otero County Lifts Fire Restrictions

The Otero County Board of Commissioners has voted to eliminate fire restrictions.

The lifting of restrictions is effective immediately, according to a news release from the Otero County Sheriff’s Office. Due to additional moisture and monsoonal weather patterns many areas in the County have greened up, said SHeriff Chris Johnson.

The County could move back to fire restrictions if conditions warrant the change, said Johnson.

This means that burn permits in the unincorporated areas of Otero County will no longer be required, said Sheriff Johnson. Please continue to exercise extreme fire safety and check with your local fire department on conditions before you burn, Johnson said.

The Sheriff’s Office thanks the citizens of Otero County for all their cooperation during the burn restrictions, said the Sheriff.
