A bullet comes dangerously close to a sleeping family after a man who lives above them fired shots into their apartment. It happened at 2:30 Friday morning at the Greentree Apartments on North Carefree Circle.
Romelia Rubio lives in a small apartment with her husband and two children. They all sleep in the same bedroom, on mattresses on the floor.
?We were sleeping and we heard a loud noise and I got scared,? said Rubio. ?We turned on the light and saw dirt coming from the ceiling. Then we saw the bullet hole.?
The bullet went straight through the ceiling then lodged into the wall above her husband?s head.
Rubio?s little girl was sleeping right next to her father. According to Rubio, Colorado Springs arrived minutes later. When officers entered the apartment right above Rubio?s they found a rifle and several magazines and ammunition boxes. Police arrested Ashton Chermack, 20, for illegal discharge of a firearm, prohibited use of weapons, child abuse and reckless endangerment.
?I think so,? said Rubio. ?Because it was so close to the bed. But I thank God that no one was hurt. I feel like we’ve been given a second chance.?
Rubio wants to move, but they just renewed their lease. Rubio?s husband plans to ask the apartment complex management if they can be let out of their lease.
