Ground Turkey Sold In Southern Colorado Recalled
Approximately 36 million pounds of fresh and ground turkey is recalled, by Cargill Meat Solutions Corporation due to possible Salmonella contamination.
The turkey was sold at King Soopers and City Market stores.
According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Salmonella Heidelberg is a bacteria strain that is resistant to many antibiotics and often a challenge to treat.
“Although Colorado currently has no confirmed cases, the CDC and other states are investigating an outbreak in which 77 people have become ill, and one has died. Consumers are advised to check their refrigerators or freezers for the product and discard it or return it to the place of purchase for a refund,” said Alicia Cronquist, an epidemiologist with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
Symptoms of salmonellosis are diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within six to 72 hours, chills, headache, nausea and vomiting that can last up to seven days, according to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment.
