Bears Spotted in Colorado Springs
Three bears have been tranquilized after they were spotted on Cheyenne Boulevard in Colorado Springs.
Colorado Springs police officers and officials with the Department of Wildlife were able to safely remove a mother bear and her two cubs found in front of a home on Cheyenne Boulevard.
“They’d been out here since probably 3 or 4 this morning, running through the yard, playing and actually scratching on my bedroom window. It’s pretty scary,” said Jessica Isbell. Isbell said the bears were digging in her neighbor’s trash before being scared into a tree by a garbage truck.
All three bears were tranquilized and relocated.
Michael Seraphin, spokesperson for the Division of Wildlife, said the recent drought is causing an increase in bear sightings this year.
“We just haven’t had enough moisture to get the green vegetation that bears normally eat. So, the bears that would be just fine, dandy and comfortable outside of town are wandering and looking for something to eat and their noses are driving them to come into cities and towns throughout southern Colorado,” said Seraphin.
Seraphin said if a bear is sighted, call the Division of Wildlife at 227-5200.
