3 Fake Cop Stops In The Last Week

Three Colorado women have reported being pulled over by a fake police officer in just the last week. It’s happened in Denver, Aurora and Jefferson County.

According to our sister station KMGH , the woman stopped near the Aurora-Denver border on July 24 told police she was sexually assaulted by two impersonators after she followed their instructions to get out of her car.

The next day, a woman was stopped in Jefferson County at Wadsworth Boulevard and Bowles Avenue. She said the fake officer took off after she refused to get out of her car.

The latest victim was pulled over in Denver Friday night at 20th Avenue and Park Avenue West. She said the man who stopped her showed a badge and looked at her license and registration before driving away.

The women said the impersonators were driving a white, unmarked, police-like vehicle with flashing lights on top. The victims in Aurora and Jefferson County have helped police create composite sketches of the men who stopped them.

Police say you can always call police dispatch to make sure the officer stopping you is legitimate.

“We certainly understand the concerns of citizens when they’re being pulled over by an unmarked police car,” said CSPD Sgt. Scott Schwall.

He said police should also understand if you look for a safe place to pull over.

“If they’re in a remote location, what would be best is if they could just pull to an area where there’s more traffic and it’s more well lit and pull over there,” said Schwall.
