UPDATE: Police Arrest Pair For Copper Theft

Colorado Springs Police have arrested two people in connection to a possible copper theft.

According to police, Matthew Porter and Wendi Grassi are suspected of committing as many as ten residential burglaries each week over the course of the last year.

Police say this is the culmination of a 30-day stake out, one that had them hot on the trail of a couple suspected in mulitple cases.

Officers have been on alert all day, after two home copper burglaries were reported in the Sand Creek area.

Police interrupted the pair midway through burgling a third home.

A brief foot chase ensued in the 1100 block of Florence Avenue.

Police caught up to the female suspect right before she reached her parked car on Richardson St.

The man was surrounded after leaping over a backyard fence and hiding in a garbage can. When police pulled him put, he was covered in maggots, after being face-down inside the trash container.

The names of the suspects have not been released, but police say they are suspected of hitting multiple homes in the area.

They say that in many of the cases, the couple would enter a home through the cellar area, stealing copper plumbing and leaving significant water damage in their wake.
