Triple Murder Suspect Kills Self

Colorado Springs police said a five hour long standoff with a triple murder suspect ended with him killing himself.

Michael Arangio, 24, is accused of shooting three Colorado Springs teenagers as they sat in their vehicle on Mira Loma Drive Wednesday night. Saturday afternoon, police said they found Arangio at an apartment complex near UCCS called Resort at University Park. The regional manager of the complex told KRDO Newchannel 13 that Arangio lived there.

Police said negotiators talked with Michale Arangio before shooting several rounds of tear gas into the apartment. The bomb squad eventually sent in its robot, which confirmed that Arangio had shot himself.

Arangio was accused of killing Austin Howse, 16, and brothers Wayne Fix, 19, and Aaron Fix, 16. The motive is still unclear.

The Fix brothers’ great-aunt, Judy Hernandez, waited at the police road block Saturday during the standoff. She said she hoped Arangio would be arrested so family members could get some answers.

“I feel like he really took the cowards way out,” said Hernandez. “Why could he not have come out like a man and let everyone know what happened that night, so there aren’t any unanswered questions? These boys were loved by their parents and their grandparents and I think they deserve answers.”
