Soldier Gets New Kitchen
Alex Bond and his wife spent Monday shopping for a new kitchen. ?Feels awesome,? said Specialist Alex Bond who is stationed at Fort Carson.
The bond family, including his five kids, have gone without a kitchen for almost a month, being forced go out to dinner and eating easy foods like cereal.
TARGET 13 Investigates told you about the Bond family last week. Bond claimed when he first moved into the home in June he found water damage in the kitchen. He said after tearing up the floor he found mold, which extended to the drywall behind the kitchen cabinets.
The previous homeowner?s insurance, American Family, investigated. Bond said at first it agreed to fix the kitchen, but he said a week after the work began the insurance company changed its mind.
American Family denied the allegation by Bond. A spokesperson said the company never promised to pay out the claim.
After the story aired on KRDO NEWSCHANNEL 13 Thursday, Bill Young, owner of Hallmark Homes, went into action. ?There was no time to waste for a settlement with the insurance company or a lawsuit,? said Young.
He called his contractor friends and by Saturday a plan of action was in place.
On Monday morning drywall installers were at work; on Tuesday painters will come in and by Friday everything should be installed so the family can cook a lunch for the first time in their new home.
?Somebody?s got to take care of this. In two weeks, he?s gone,? said young, referring to Bond?s third deployment to the Middle East.
?Now I know I can get on that plane and everything will be OK and my wife will be in good hand,? said Bond.
