Detra Farries Pleads Not Guilty, Bond Reduced
The woman accused of dragging a tow truck driver to his death pleaded not guilty on Friday morning.
A judge also reduced her bond by half, from $50,000 to $25,000. The defense had argued that the bond amount was unjust.
Her lawyers said that the typical bond amount for a class 3 felony is $10,000.
Prosecutors said Farries’ bond should be higher because she had missed several court dates in Denver and was a flight risk.
A trial date has been set for Nov. 7.
Farries faces charges including vehicular manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and leaving the scene of an accident in the death of 35-year-old Allen Rose.
She was supposed to be arraigned on June 23 but her attorneys said they wanted more time to gather evidence.
Prosecutors said Farries jumped in her car as it was being hooked up to the tow truck and drove away, dragging Rose for a mile behind her.
Farries’ lawyers said Rose was at fault and that she never saw him.
Farries remains in the El Paso County Jail.
