Two Drivers Hurt In Head-On Crash
The Colorado State Patrol said a driver who failed to yield to oncoming traffic while turning left, caused a head-on crash at a busy intersection Monday evening.
The accident happened just before 6 p.m. on Highways 85 and 87 near South Academy Boulevard. The impact shattered the windshields of both cars involved and scattered debris through the intersection. The drivers were alone in the vehicles.
“The damage is nasty,” said Cpl. Randy Novotny, a state trooper. “The injuries weren’t too bad. I think they were both wearing their seat belts. We had air bag deployment in both cases. Alcohol is not suspected.”
The accident affected traffic in the area for about 30 minutes.
Novotny said the holiday weekend has been fairly quiet, with no more than the usual number of traffic accidents. He said drivers appear to be following the advice to avoid drinking while driving.
