650 Soldiers Due Home Over Next Few Days

More than 650 soldiers will be welcomed home in two different ceremonies at Fort Carson before the end of the week.

About 350 soldiers are expected to return Tuesday at 10 p.m. from the 1BCT. A second group is expected home around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday.

During its deployment, the Raider brigade worked to rebuild Afghanistan’s infrastructure and strengthen state operations, according to Fort Carson.

Soldiers from 1BCT forged a close partnership with Afghan National Security Forces, providing assistance to the Afghan government through combat troops, close air support, mine clearance and medical support.

“The strengthened ANSF fostered greater trust and interaction with Afghan civilians, resulting in an increased network of informants and a greater number of telephonic tips which led U.S. and Afghan forces to most of the weapons caches and explosive devices they disabled,” a release said.
