Arrest Made In Fatal Hit-And-Run Crash
On Friday, police in Colorado Springs said they arrested 31-year-old man in connection to an area hit-and-run.
Police said Michael Conyer is accused of crashing into 19-year-old U.S. Army Spc. Christopher Wheeler, of Boston. Wheeler was a soldier at Fort Carson and served in Afghanistan for more than a year.
Wheeler was riding a motorcycle and died at the scene of the crash at Rangewood and Randall streets just over a week ago.
“We actually got a tip from a citizen,” Sgt. Adrian Vasquez of the Colorado Springs Police Department said.
Police said the crash occurred on May 27. Investigators were searching all week for a green car that they said turned in front of the motorcycle at the intersection.
“I know we received multiple tips,” Vasquez said. “We received one tip that was perfect. They had all the information we needed for the follow up, we were able to take action and our officers were able to go out and talk to a lot of different people.”
Police said investigators even checked out body shops in the area for a car with accident damage.
Police said Conyer is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death.
