TARGET 13: Mother Comes Forward Concerning Cop Accused Of Buying Child Porn
Colorado Springs police officer Josh Carrier was in court Tuesday on a charge of sexual exploitation of child.
The arrest affidavit obtained by TARGET 13 Investigates said police found a DVD, next to the officer?s bed, that contained young children engaged in a sexual act.
Sources told TARGET 13 that police are now interviewing potential victims who might have been touched sexually by Carrier while he was a school resource officer at Mann Middle School.
One mother, who we are calling Jennifer to protect her son?s identity, told TARGET 13 that Carrier put his hand down her son?s pants in 2009. ?The officer had my son take off his clothes and put his hands around his underwear lining and then down his pants.? She claimed the officer touched her middle school-aged son?s private parts.
Jennifer said her son was pulled out of class after another student claimed he was going to commit suicide, which turned out not to be true. She said Carrier took her son to the hospital, where she claimed he touched her son again.
Jennifer said after learning about the touching, she called the school and police to complain. ?My son was accused by the officer of being a liar.? She said police wouldn?t listen because it was her son?s word against the officer’s.
?They told us that if we wanted to hire a private investigator that we could, but they knew my husband is only a pizza delivery guy and he doesn?t make enough to get a private investigator or a lawyer or anything,? she said.
TARGET 13 Investigates filed an open records request with the Colorado Springs Police Department last week after Carrier was accused of sexual exploitation of a child.
Under Colorado law, internal affairs files are open to the public if police feel it?s in the public?s interest.
Sgt. Steve Noblitt denied the request, ?on the ground that disclosure would be contrary to the public interest. As you know Officer Carrier was arrested on May 11, 2011 on suspicion of being in possession of child pornography. CSPD is still actively investigating this criminal matter. ? Police wouldn?t verify if they had any victims who have come forward, only saying it is an ongoing investigation.
Jennifer said she wished police would have believed her son in 2009. ?How many children could have been saved if this thing hadn?t been covered up back then?? she asked.
TARGET 13 Investigates also contacted Colorado Springs School District 11 about the complaint filed by Jennifer. A spokeswoman told us we needed to file an open records request to learn more about the complaint. The request was sent in and TARGET 13 is waiting for a response from the district
