2 More Rabid Skunks Found In Pueblo
Health department officials announced two skunks tested positive for rabies in Pueblo on Monday. Both skunks were found east of city limits.
Neither skunk had contact with humans or pets, the health department said.
“It is important for people to stay away from wild mammals, especially during daylight hours, as rabies is in Pueblo,” said Vicki Carlton, Consumer Protection manager in the Environmental Health Division at the Pueblo City-County Health Department.
The two skunks were found on Ashley Lane and near 30th Lane and Everett Road.
When you see a skunk or other wild animal during daylight hours acting abnormally, such as stumbling or acting overly aggressive, make sure to stay away from the animal, especially children and pets, and call Pueblo Animal Services 719-544-3005 to report the location.
While rabies is most commonly found in bats, people and pets should also avoid contact with skunks and other wild animals such as foxes or raccoons, since these animals may be rabid, the health department said.
