Update: 10,000 Ballots Left Uncounted Tuesday

Update: Sue Skiffington-Blumberg, top spokeswoman with the city, says computer problems did not contribute to Tuesday’s decision to go home with 10,000 ballots left uncounted.

Skiffington-Blumberg tells NEWSCHANNEL13 it’s not official yet, but the city may have broken a voting record for municipal elections, a possible contributing factor.

Asked if it was normal for an election staff to retire for the evening with so many votes still uncounted, Skiffington-Blumberg said, “I cannot speak to what is the norm, but i can say that [City Clerk Kathryn] Young thinks this is the best thing to do for her election staff to keep them sharp.”

Staffers will resume counting Wednesday morning. They anticipate a final result by the afternoon.
