Sheriff?s Office Tight Lipped About Investigation

Douglas County Sheriff?s Investigators continued to search a home in Castle Rock Tuesday where two people were killed. The bodies of Amara Wells and her brother-in-law, Robert Rafferty were found last week, possibly stabbed to death.

TARGET 13 has learned that investigators have been talking to a man in Colorado Springs who sold a model 1911 gun to Michah Woody, one of the suspects, arrested last weekend.

TARGET 13 has been told by two unnamed sources, who didn?t have permission to speak with the media, that the gun was sold before the murders and might have been used in the crime.

Douglas County Sheriff?s Deputies arrested four Southern Colorado men on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection to the crime. Joshiah Sher, Matthew Plake, Micah Woody and Christopher Wells, Amara’s estranged husband.

Investigators have not released mug shots of the men and their arrest affidavits have been sealed. Law enforcement familiar with the crime said it could mean that detectives are using the photos to question more witnesses or are looking at other suspects in the crime.

TARGET 13 has also learned a man, who is friends with all of the suspects, told police about the crime last week. He was taken into protective custody before the arrests and put up at a Castle Rock hotel.

Amara Wells was staying at Rafferty?s home after leaving her husband. The couple was in the process of getting a divorce.

The family issued the following statement on Tuesday:

“The families of Bob and Amara would like to thank all of those who have expressed their sympathy and offered their prayers for their lost loved one’s and the family. These two people were a gift to all that knew them. The families want to express their gratitude to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, the state agencies and other jurisdictions who worked so diligently to bring quick arrests in this tragic and senseless crime.

“The families are not willing or able to give interviews at this time as they wish to cooperate with the sheriff’s office in their on-going investigation. As you can imagine, this is a very difficult time for the families and they ask that the public, and especially the media, respect their privacy and allow them time to grieve and deal with this tragedy.”

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said this is still an active investigation and anyone who has additional information in the case is asked to call the tip line at 303-660-7579
