A Budget Boost For Colorado Springs

up for colorado springs’ bottom line.. the city’s finances for next year …up more than 10 million dollars. some city services might come back… others… are still on the chopping block… our lindsay watts has the story…it’s new on krdo newschannel 13. it was a packed house here at city hall tonight. every year the public gets a chance to let the council know where they want their tax dollars spent. the good news… this year theres more money to go around. sot 1 5:16:13 “we’re really in a position where we’re restoring and adding back resources and services that last year we were taking away” a much needed budget boost. at the beginning of the year…the city predicted an almost 30 million dollar shortfall for 20-11. increasing tax revenue and a booming medical marijuana industry…have helped turn the economic tide. the interim city manager says people will notice a difference. 05:10:57 “they shouldn’t see the weed like they did this year, youre going to see porto-johns in the parks, youre going to see trach picked up in the parks, so its significant” meeting nats most of the people at the council’s budget meeting came from the city’s therapeutic recreation program. it provides activities and support for people with disabilities. the program is hoping for money to continue its services. ajk09496 01:51:09 “please do not shut this program down” colorado springs fire..also hoping for more money. sot 2 01:37:42 “we closed down our hazmat unit a couple of years ago and were going to see if we can get that restored” nat fire truck? while the city budget is about 5 percent bigger than last year’s… some community centers and the city’s cottonwood pool could still be on the chopping block. street lights that have been turned off will stay off. the springs city manager has finished his budget proposal. a week from today the city council will make its changes… taking into consideration suggestions heard tonight. an update on the
