Tires Litter Colorado Springs Junkyards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – An overflowing junkyard in Colorado Springs is catching residents’ attention. One viewer tells NEWSCHANNEL 13, piles of tires are littering an area off Las Vegas Street in South Colorado Springs and falling into the creek nearby.City Code Enforcement Administrator, Ken Lewis, says junkyard owners must conceal everything behind a fence that’s at least six feet in height. Lewis says one particular business in the area is not following city rules. The city inspects these areas based on resident complaints. After noticing a business is not complying, the city will send a notice. If the business does not fix the problem, they could be given a ticket.Lewis says most businesses do their best to meet city standards and the bigger problem is people dumping belonging in these areas. Cash for Cars employee Dave Corbit says the city rules help to maintain the area. He says they also help deter theft.
