Woman Returns Adoptive Son
SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. — A woman allegedly put her seven-year-old adopted Russian son on a one-way flight back to his homeland.
Now Russian leaders are outraged. The Russian foreign minister on Friday suggested the country freeze all child adoptions with U.S. families .
The child ended up in Moscow by himself carrying a letter from his adoptive mother, Torry Ann Hansen. The letter said she was returning him because he was violent and had severe psychological problems.
The letter was addressed to the Ministry of Education in Russia. Hansen writes she was lied to and misled by the Russian orphanage workers regarding the boy’s mental stability. She said for the safety of her family, friends and herself, she no longer wishes to parent the child and “would like the adoption disannulled.”
