Saving A Life Through Grooming Pets
COLORADO SPRINGS – 5-year-old Ryan Vanloon is like most kids his age. He runs around the house and loves to play with his twin sister. But unlike most kids, he has to wear a surgical mask to protect him from germs and bacteria.
Ryan suffers from Adrenal Luco Dystrophy, a disease that attacks him immune system; It’s a rare, life threatening disease, that could cause him to lose his ability to see, speak and hear.
His mother, Chrissy, says at one time he was taking 17 different medications and recently got a bone marrow transplant from his sister.
While Medicaide is picking up most of the $500,000 medical bill, the family still has cost to cover and deiced to open a dog grooming business.
“(We’re) trying to incorporate faith in god this is the way he’s leading us right now,” says Chrissy Vanloon. She was working three jobs before Ryan’s transplant, but had to give them up to take care of her son.
With more than 13 years of grooming experience she is hoping her home based business will bring in enough money for the family to survive. “We don’t have a bunch of dogs here, we don’t cage them, we do one family at a time so it’s real personal.” Ryan is recovering and is now down to taking 10 medications a night, but every night he still needs to be hooked up to an IV. “You just do it; it’s natural that’s what you do for your kid,” says Vanloon.
The family says it does have a license. If you would like to know more about the Vanloon’s business you can call 719-930-0233 or 719-209-5026. Or log onto their website at coloradospringsgrooming.com
