Woodland Park Re-Elects Mayor, Defeats Tax Hike
By Lindsay Watts
WOODLAND PARK-Mayor Steve Randolph celebrated with his supporters Tuesday nightafter learning of his re-election.Randolph beat his opponent, city council memberJon DeVaux, 712 to 462. Randolph says he’s happy to continue on as mayor, but happier about the failure of a measure that would have boosted sales tax 1% to fund a YMCA.
“To me that was a much more important question,” says Randolph. “A mayor gets a two tear term, but that tax increase would’ve had a 20 year term.”
Thetax boostfailed by a four to one margin. Both supporters and opponents of the initiative say there is some good that came out of it: an alternative plan for a town pool that would cost a lot less than a community center.
