MONUMENT- A deadly crash in Eagle County sends shockwaves through the Monument community. On Sunday a crowd of more than a hundred people gathered at a Monument coffeeshop to remember Levi Patrick, the captain of the Lewis-Palmer football team, track star and homecoming king. He was one of four teens in a jeep that rolled on I-70 Saturday, when police say a faulty tire caused the driverto lose control. The other teens survived, butLevi died at the scene.
“His smile was so contagious, and he loved you no matter what,” says Sasha Patrick, Levi’s older sister.
Shesays, despite her brother’s love of sports, his faith is what was most important in his life.
“He knew Jesus,” she says,”and that’s what gives me hope, that I’ll see him again in heaven.”
She says her family is coping with the help of their faith and support from others who loved Levi. Most of the crowd at Sunday’s vigil were students from Lewis-Palmer, devastated by Levi’s death. The group lit candles and shared memories of Levi.
“I’ve never loved anyone like I loved him, he was my brother,” said one student.
“WhenI did my worst, he was there for me, whenI did my best, he was there for me,” said a fellow track runner.
“He was just such a hard worker, a true inspiration,” said another.
