Sen. Michael Bennet Reacts To Health Care Bills Passing

By: Patti Moon

COLORADO SPRINGS – Sen. Michael Bennet (D) has telling words when it comes to how the health care bills were passed.

“I’m please that a bill passed,” said Bennet. “I’m sorry in the way that it passed. I think the process from the very beginning to the end in the Congress was horrible.”

Congress passed the Senate-approved bill 219-212. It was a partisan vote with 34 Democrats voting against their party line.

Bennet says he’s now focused on the law’s impact and pleased with the Congressional Budget Office’s analysis.

“It’s over a 20-year period and it shows a savings of $1.3 trillion,” Bennet said.

Bennet notes that if the law is implemented well, there is a potential for even greater savings.

The Senator notes there are provisions every American should be proud of.

College students who were once worried about losing their health insurance will now be able to stay on their parents’ plan until age 26. Bennet says the law looks out for our future.

“Because this bill passed, no child in America this year that has a pre-existing condition can be denied health insurance,” said Bennet.

Sen. Bennet wants more people to read the actual text of the law. He says it’s all part of his main focus, getting the economy back on track.

“I’m less worried the election in November than I’m worried about leaving our kids an economy that doesn’t work,” Bennet said.

The Democrats’ next big goal is Wall Street reform, according to Sen. Bennet. He says that debate needs to be framed by facts and focused on what is truly best for Americans.
