Senate Rejects Requirement For Seat Belts On School Buses
DENVER – The Senate voted against a proposal requiring seat belts on school buses.
Senate President Brandon Shaffer, D-Longmont, offered up the amendment to House Bill 1232, which would clarify the definition of school vehicles.
Shaffer’s amendment would have required all buses purchased after June 30 to have three-point shoulder and lap belts for all passengers.
Several lawmakers in both parties say the proposal would be too costly and school buses are already safe.
They say, with reinforced, padded, high back seats, kids are safe on school buses.
