Failure To Pay Big Money To Workers
DENVER (AP) – A Colorado couple is accused of failing to pay nearly $380,000 to their company’s drivers who were delivering mail for the U.S. Postal Service.
Federal prosecutors say George Grunden Sr., and Renza Grunden forced their employees to sometimes work more than 70 hours without the required 36-hour break and failed to pay them the wages mandated by the Postal Service contract.
Prosecutors allege the violations happened from June 2003 to May 2009 while the couple operated Colorado’s Choice One Delivery Service.
The couple was arrested Thursday and advised that they face charges of fraud and making false statements. Both are free on bail and due in court to be arraigned April 2. John Chanin, George
Grunden’s attorney, said he couldn’t comment on the case.
