COLORADO SPRINGS- A new scam is making the rounds. The person on the other line says they are from Qwest, but they are not.
Nancy Shanley tells NEWSCHANNEL13 in an e-mail she receive the fishy call.
“They say there were 5,000 businesses that were billed in error and the only way to correct this is to answer some questions. They say the call in being recorded.”
The call sounds very convincing. The caller even gives a name and “badge number,” but when Shanley started questioning the supposed Qwest employee, the tone changed. “She was angry that I was wasting her time, and if I didn’t take care of this now the $55 fee could not be disputed.”
NEWSCHANNEL 13 contacted Qwest. Representatives say they are aware of the calls, but don’t know who is making them. If you suspect you have received one of these calls, Qwest says you should take down as many details as possible with out giving out any information, and hang-up. You can then contact Qwest to see if the call was legitimate.
