COLORADO SPRINGS – A working spring break for some college students trying to get Colorado transportation back on the right track.
A group of students from the University of Colorado is traveling the state by bus calling on lawmakers to pay for much needed transit projects.
“Instead of going to Cancun and sitting on a beach, we are out here in the snow advocating for transit,” said Bryon Musante, member of CoPRIG student chapters.
According to CoPRIG, Colorado’s transit system is in trouble. Roads and bridges are crumbling and services are under-funded. “Specifically in Colorado Springs, we’d just like to see service restored, a lot of people use these buses,” Musante stated.
Bus services, including routes and schedules, were cut earlier this year to save money. The city did receive some money for maintenance to buses and bus stops in March. But city leaders believe there’s still much more to be done.
The students will head to northern Colorado Thursday, making stops in Loveland, Greeley and Fort Collins. Then on Friday, their journey will wrap up in Jefferson County.
