Hero Of Colorado School Shootings Given New Car

DENVER (AP) – A teacher who tackled a suspected shooter outside a Colorado school has been given a new car.

The Shortline Automotive dealership in suburban Denver gave David Benke a 2010 Subaru Outback on Tuesday. Benke is credited with knocking down BrucoStrong Eagle Eastwood outside Deer Creek Middle School after two students were shot and wounded Feb. 23.

Both students are recovering. Eastwood is charged with attempted murder and other counts and is being held under $1 million cash bail. He hasn’t entered a plea.

Benke told KMGH-TV he’s been offered many gifts and was reluctant to accept them because he was just doing his job that day.

He says he accepted the car after consulting with his wife and priest. He will donate his old car to charity.
