Springs-Led U.S. Bobsledders Fastest In First Run

Hey, Colorado Springs, perhaps it’s time to become known a bobsled mecca. You have to wonder about the possibilities after the USA 1 sled piloted by Steven Holcomb of Colorado Springs and the Olympic Training Center has taken the lead after the first run of four-man bobsled Friday afternoon at Whistler Sliding Center.
Steven Holcomb
Holcomb, whose team also includes Curt Tomasevicz of Colorado Springs, drove the top U.S. sled to a time of 50.89 seconds, taking the lead over Canada 1 and three German entries, all within three-10ths of a second of USA 1 after the first of four runs.
USA 2, piloted by John Napier, is in seventh place but still in medal contention.
The second run will come later this afternoon, with the final two runs on Saturday.
Another Springs-based pair of bobsledders, Bree Schaaf and Emily Azevedo, placed an impressive fifth earlier in women’s bobsled.
