Big Break For Vonn: Women’s Ski Event Delayed
Posted by Ralph Routon
No news was definitely the best news Saturday for U.S. skier Lindsey Vonn at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Because of continuing weather issues and the need to focus on preparing for the men’s downhill race scheduled this afternoon, Vancouver organizers postponed another women’s training run that had been planned this morning at Whistler.
That was what Vonn wanted to hear, for two reasons. One, it gives the Vail resident yet another day for her deeply bruised right shin to recover. Two, and more importantly, it means the women’s super-combined event set for Sunday (with downhill in the morning, followed by giant slalom in the afternoon) has been postponed because the competitors haven’t had sufficient time to train on the actual courses.
There was no announcement Saturday on a new time for the women’s super-combined, but it might have to wait until Tuesday.
Also, organizers have admitted they aren’t sure if the men’s downhill can go as scheduled today. More later…
