Springs Fire Dept. Busy With Apt. Fires

Colorado Springs- Colorado Springs fire crews stay busy with 2 apartment fires, about a half hour apart, Friday night. The first broke out in a laundry room at the El Vencio apartments, around 6. Residents were evacuated because of heavy smoke carrying through the ducts. Fire investigators believe it started in some plumbing that had been worked on earlier. About a half hour later, a fire broke out in a 4-unit apartment near St. Vrain and Union. One unit suffered severe fire damage. The owners are now staying with friends. Investigators have been called to find a cause. One other unit suffered some minor smoke damage.
