Officers were making awelfare check at Virginia McNamara’s home onthe 2900 block of Illinois Ave. Police say when she came to the door with a gun, officers retreated and called in the SWAT Team.

“When we have a person that threatens a police officer with a firearm, we take that very seriously,” says CSPD Sgt. Steve Noblitt.

After an hour and a half long stand-off, McNamara surrendered. One neighbor believes her medication was to blame for the incident.

“She was a very calm, nice lady, she wasn’t bothering anybody,” says James McGibbon.”She just took too much medication at the wrong time.”

We did a background check on McNamara and found no evidence of a criminal history.
