CSPD Nabs 5 Suspects In Overnight 7-11 Robberies
COLORADO SPRINGS – Police have arrested five people as suspects in two armed robberies at 7-11 stores on the city’s east side. The hold-ups happened less than an hour apart, early Sunday morning. Benito Castillo, 23; Edward Castillo, 21; and three juveniles were arrested and charged.
An officer stopped the suspects as they were leaving the scene of the second robbery at Delta Drive and Hancock Expressway, shortly after 3 a.m. The vehicle matched the description given by a clerk who was assaulted and threatened with a gun during the hold-up. Police recovered the stolen items and a weapon.
The first robbery happened just before 2:30 a.m. at Pikes Peak Avenue and Academy Boulevard. A citizen reported seeing two people pointing guns at clerks in the store, and two people apparently acting as lookouts outside. One suspect fired a shot and barely missed a clerk before the group fled. The clerks then reported the crime to police.
Four of the suspects were described as young adult males wearing blue bandanas over their faces. The investigation is continuing.
