City Considers Expanding Cheyenne Mountain State Park

COLORADO SPRINGS – The city of Colorado Springs is considering whether to purchase 120 acres to expand Cheyenne Mountain State Park. That would make the park off Highway 115 next to Fort Carson 1680 acres. It currently is home to 20 miles of trails and attracts 150,000 visitors a year.

Funding would come from the Trails, Open Spaces, and Parks program. Colorado Springs spent more than 8-million dollars to open the park in 2008 though the state manages the land.

City leaders are set to meet with park leaders on Wednesday.
