Mireya Garcia – Telemundo Anchor/ Reporter
I joined NEWSCHANNEL 13 on November 2009 as the NOTIALERTAS Telemundo Anchor and Reporter for NEWSCHANNEL 13. The best thing about the journalism world is that no two days are ever the same. I have to constantly be on my toes, and I like it that way.
Before coming to Colorado Springs, I was working in Corpus Christi, Texas as a reporter for the local Univison affiliate KORO. I was also the host of a local English/ Spanish fusion talk show in the Coastal Bend, Hola Tejas, that concentrated on political issues important to area’s Hispanic community.
I was born and raised on the Texas/Mexico border, and am a University of Texas Magna Cum Laude Graduate. While in Austin I worked with the only student run and student produce television station in the country, Texas Student Television, as the Executive Producer and Anchor for KVR News. There I was awarded an SPJ award for a Feature Story on Tejano Music.
I also created a news department in the Austin-based radio station 91.7FM KVRX, and hosted the news talk show called In The Know. The FOX affiliate KTBC selected me as the UT-Austin Reporter for their morning newscast in 2008.
One of my most exciting journalistic experiences includes live blogging during the Democratic National Debate between President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2008.
During my free time I love reading a good book, practicing Yoga, and dancing Zumba.
