Lincoln County Grass Fire Burns 900 Acres

LINCOLN COUNTY- A grass fire Thursday that threatened at least one building was put out before any buildings burned. It apparently started behind a home from a trash fire that went out of control in dry, windy conditions, according to a relative.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s office says the fire near County Road 2A and Highway 94, about six miles east of Rush, wasunder controlin about 90 minutes. The fire started around 11 a.m. Deputies estimated the fire burned about 900 acres.

Several fire departments from Lincoln and El Paso Counties battled the fire. The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office will continue investigating the cause.

Family members were preparing to meet at the home for Thanksgiving dinner when the fire spread. They say they tried to extinguish it, but were unsuccessful.
