COLORADO SPRINGS – The mother and father of a baby brutally beaten are behind bars. 23-year-old Jesse Kaizen and Amanda Sims have been charged with the attempted murder of their infant daughter in July. Kaizen and Sims are not married and do not live together.

The baby was rushed to Memorial Hospital, but there are still no confirmed details on her injuries. Police tell us the child will suffer long-term problems, and family members say she is blind and suffers from significant brain damage.

Kaizen and Sims appeared in court Thursday. We spoke with Kaizen’s wife and sister at the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center after court. Kaizen’s wife Brittany Kaizen says she knows her husband is innocent because she was with him the night the incident occurred. “I was with him that night. It was on the 4th of July we went up to Garden of the Gods with our 2 kids and then back to my parents house dropped our kids off, then me and him went out with friends,” said Brittany.

She says she is not pointing fingers at anyone else, but there is not enough evidence against her husband and Sims. “Neither one of them deserve to be here, they both have kids and I know that they have one together. Amanda has 2 other kids that are amazing, she’s a good mom to them and he has kids and he’s a good dad,” said Brittany.

Kaizen’s sister, Adrieanna Rosati, says her biggest concern right now is her brother’s children. “His kids can’t see him and they’re too young to understand. So if they listen to what anybody has to say or what the news says they’re going to get a bad idea and my brother’s not a bad person,” said Rosati.

Jesse Kaizen and Amanda Sims have their next court hearing on November 16th.
