Salute To Fallen Officer
COLORADO SPRINGS – People in the community salute a fallen officer. Officer Tom Heath was a school resource officer at Pine Creek High School. He died in June as a result from injuries he received in a motorcycle accident. Family members and friends remember him and try to raise money to help his daughter and son ages 12 and 17. The children live with their grandmother who needs financial help raising them.
Officer Tom Heath served with the Colorado Springs Police Department for the past twelve years. Officer Heath was engaged to be married his fiancee Michelle Wood was riding on his motorcycle when he died “I just remember i guess it was just outside gunnison we were going around a curve the next thing i remember is flying through the air and rolling i remember laying on my back and when i was laying there i could hear tom yelling asking what happened where was I.”
In the crash Tom suffered a punctured lung, a wounded shoulder and broken ribs still Michelle says, “he tired to get up and come to but he had so many broken bones that he couldn’t get up that’s the way he was he was more concerned about me than he was himself.”
For the last four years of his career Officer Heath served as a School Resource Officer at Pine Creek High School Michelle says, “after he passed away i got e-mails from some of his students saying they wouldn’t be alive if it wasn’t for officer tom and they wouldn’t have graduated if it wasn’t for ?Officer Tom.”
Michelle says remembering Tom at events like this help keep her going, but at times she struggles to help her daughter understand “my daughter is 3 she keeps asking when is Tom gonna come home from heaven.”
