9/11 Remembrance Events In Southern Colorado

SOUTHERN COLORADO – Here is a list of 9/11 remembrance events across southern Colorado.

Ft. Carson: The Mountain Post will host an installation-wide September 11th remembrance run beginning at Founder’s Field and ending at Ironhorse Park, at 6:30 a.m. Friday. The 4-mile run, intended to build esprit d’ corps and boost soldier morale, will be led by Maj. Gen. David Perkins, 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson commanding General and Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel Daily, 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson command Sergeant Major. Perkins will lead a remembrance of 9/11 at the conclusion of the event at Ironhorse Park. The 4th Inf. Div. Band, Color Guard and a Salute Battery will also be present during the run.

Pueblo: “Never Forget- A 9/11 Tribute”, will begin at 7:55am in Gateway Park, on the historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo. The tribute is being presented by the City of Pueblo, the Fire Department Honor Guard.

Colorado Springs: Mitchell High School JROTC’s annual9/11 Memorial Ceremony starts at 8:30am. This ceremony will honor the military personnel, civilians, fire fighters, and police officers who passed away during this tragedy. There will also be a special acknowledgement to Mrs. Kathryn Yancy LaBorie, a 1975 graduate of Mitchell High School, who was a flight attendant aboard United Airlines Flight 175. Her plane was the second aircraft to crash into the World Trade Center. Participating in the ceremony will be Mitchell’s JROTC Cadets, Choir, Band members, Colorado Springs Fire Department Station 7, and Colorado Springs Police Department High School Resource Officers. Attending the ceremony will be students, teachers, parents, district officials and NORTHCOM personnel.

Colorado Springs: A 9/11 memorial at UCCSwill be open from 8:30am to 3:30pm, with the main ceremony at 9:11am. College Republicans at UCCS have placed 2,977 flags outside the new science and engineering building to honor the victims of 9-11. At 9:11 a.m. the University Clock Tower will play the National Anthem symbolizing a moment of silencefor the victims. A wreathwill be placednear the flag memorial to commemorate those who were lost on that tragic day. The College Republicans will then honor the Colorado Springs Police that serve the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs with a special gift for serving not only the campus, but also the community and the country.The 9-11: Never Forgot Project, cosponsored by the Young American’s Foundation, is part of a memorial program held on over 200 college campuses across the country.

Colorado Springs: Donations to Crawford House being accepted between 8am & 1pm in honor of homeless veterans in conjunction with VA programs. September 11, 2009, was recently designated a National Day of Service and Remembrance by Congress and signed into law by our Commander-in-Chief, President Obama. The Crawford House is located at 415 S. Weber St. in the Springs. Donators are asked to givephone cards, toiletries and canned goods for the veterans who are working to overcome challenges they have faced since finishing their military service to our country. The event is being run with the help of VFW Post 7829 from Monument. Organizers say, “The public support of Crawford House helps create a wonderful legacy that honors the victims and those who rose to service in response to the attacks on America”.

Colorado Springs & Security – In honor of 9-11, Boriello Brothers Pizza will host an event to support local firefighters by donating all proceeds from their daily sales on September 13th to the Colorado Springs Professional Fire Fighters Association, the Security Fire Department and Manitou Fire Dept. The money will be used by all 3 organizations for community events and continued fundraising for their chosen charities. Firefighters from both groups will be assisting Boriello Brothers employees from Noon to 7pm with pizza preparation, dishwashing, and serving. The five locations are as follows:

3. 4750 Barnes Rd. (Local 5)

4. 229 S. 8th St (Manitou FD)

5. 5490 Power Center Point (Local 5)
