Judge’s Ruling Complicates USOC Headquarters Financing

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – Colorado Springs officials say a judge’s ruling has complicated efforts to arrange financing for a new U.S. Olympic Committee headquarters.

A judge on Wednesday refused to dismiss a lawsuit by a taxpayer who says city plans to raise $38 million for the project requires voter approval.

City officials maintain their plan to issue “certificates of participation” doesn’t require a public vote.

Officials say the ruling could cause them to miss a 45-day timetable to complete financing. That in turn could allow the original developer of the project to reinstate a lawsuit alleging the city failed to hold up its part of the deal.

The deal has been a sore point for some who don’t believe Colorado Springs should be paying for the USOC’s home.
