Colorado Fares Better Than Nation On SAT Scores

DENVER (AP) – Coloradans in the high school class of 2009 scored better than the national average on the SAT college entrance exam.

The College Board said Tuesday Colorado seniors averaged 568 on critical reading, 575 on math and 555 on writing.

The national averages were 501 on reading, 515 on math and 493 on writing.

Nearly 10,000 Colorado students took the exam.

The College Board didn’t provide year-over-year comparisons for Colorado. Nationally, scores dipped slightly.

Twenty-two percent of Colorado students in this year’s pool were minorities. The largest minority group was Asian, Asian American or Pacific Islander at 6 percent of the total.

Thirteen percent of the total reported their parents never attended college.
